Hamburg police said that they have arrested the 26-year-old man of the United Arab Emirates, after being accused of killing one person and wounding 6 others.
The suspect who was identified as Ahmad A., is facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
According to the police investigation, the suspect, who identified as a Palestinian, came to the country from the United Arab Emirates, seeking asylum.
On Friday afternoon, the suspect walked into the supermarket, while it was packed with shoppers. He pulled out a knife and began stabbing people.
Witnesses at the scene reported that the suspect was yelling Allahu Akbar while stabbing shoppers. Shoppers overpowered the suspect and held him down until police arrived.
Mayor Olaf Scholz said that the suspect was motivated by pure hate.
Scholz added that he was very angry that a person who sought the protection of Germany, turned around and stabbed its citizens.
